Do residential/home solar power systems qualify for Canada Greener Homes Grants?

Blog Image

As the interest in green energy continues to grow, the government of Canada has decided to offer grants for those homeowners looking to increase their home’s energy efficiency. The usual suspects are covered, of course, ENERGY STAR® windows and doors, insulation, smart thermostats and heat pumps. But what about something like solar panels? Do residential/home solar power systems qualify for Canada Greener Homes Grant?

Fortunately, the answer is yes! If you install photovoltaic solar panels to convert the sun’s energy into electricity, you can receive a grant. Furthermore, you may also be eligible for a reimbursement for some of the costs of installing batteries to store your converted energy. This is provided you meet certain criteria for eligibility. We’ve listed them here, from the government website.

Eligibility criteria for reimbursement under Greener Homes Grant

  • All equipment must be purchased in Canada
  • Online purchases are only eligible if they are ordered from an online distributor in Canada.
  • The system must be composed of photovoltaic (PV) panel and inverter certified to CSA Standards
  • The rated PV panel must have peak power capacity higher than or equal to 1.0 kW

If you’ve been thinking about a solar power home retrofit, now is a great time to take advantage of these money-back grants. Plus, you can easily check off the 1st and 2nd eligibility criteria by dealing with your friendly, residential solar power company right here in Victoria!
